Voces de 7 de octubre - Latino Stories of Survival
    MIAMI

Why Are We Telling This Story? Today, Latinos are 20% of the total US population and Spanish is the second most spoken language in America. By 2050, US Latino will make up 30% of the total population. Young Latinos are primary consumers of digital content, and a growing percentage are vocal critics of Israel’s war against Hamas. In the 2024, Latinos will make up 15% of all eligible voters. Spanish-language digital media content is widely consumed and largely unregulated, allowing for an endless stream of fake news about the Gaza war that is fueling antisemitism. This documentary seeks to counter disinformation and conspiracy theories circulating in Spanish about the 10/7 massacre carried out by Hamas. Israel has a sizable Latino immigrant population, many of whom were witnesses to the Hamas massacre that triggered the Gaza war. Latin American Jewish immigrants established several of the kibbutzim attacked. Dozens of Israeli-Latinos are among the survivors and hostages. Thousands evacuated their homes under duress months ago and are now internal refugees, their families traumatized, and their livelihoods shattered. This documentary will tell the Latino-Israeli immigrant experience story - fleeing uncertainty to start a new life, living under attacks from extremists, surviving generational trauma - the 10/7 massacre, and looking forward to rebuilding again. Our hope is that this project unites our two communities, Latino and Jewish, sparking conversations about our differences, but more importantly, celebrating our shared cultural and generational similarities as immigrants. Other objectives of this project include organizing film screenings in key cities in partnership with Latino and Jewish organizations and communities. Support this project to ensure that millions in the Hispanic world learn about the 10/7 massacre.
